Raman Spectra of Planar Supported Lipid Bilayers
My research objective is to develop a new technique of off-resonance total internal reflection (TIR) RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY with polarisation to be applicable to membrane study at water–solid interface.
By using this technique, the initial target was to understand the single lipid bilayers. In an early stage of exploitation to membrane protein, simple systems with known-structures (not in lipid bilayer in water) were considered. Firstly the membrane-spanning peptide gramicidin was studied in the supported single lipid bilayers. Subsequently the membrane protein phospholipase A2 was investigated in its hydrolytic enzyme activity on lipid bilayers. Also I challenged dynamic strucutures of indolicidin interacting with lipid bilayers, which still needs more research.
